On The Road With Denis & Starr/Day 33 - Saratoga Springs, NY

Monday, November 2

Saratoga Springs, NY

Jesse
The Brunswick Inn Pooch

Our host, Kirk and his mom, Harriet.

Lucky for us, Harriet was visiting from Terre Haute, Indiana,  during the time we stayed at The Brunswick Inn.  Together with the other guests, Harriet would join us for breakfast each morning.  She was an expert on Saratoga Springs, it's history, society life and especially the traditions upheld during the racing season.

Although (I think selectively) hard of hearing, Harriet kept us entertained while we dined on Kirk's delicious breakfast offerings.  We especially enjoyed her stories about being a radio newscaster in the 1950's at WTHI Radio in Terre Haute.  Also, her memories of teaching school in a one room schoolhouse brought to life those times that you can only imagine.

We had an easy going day.  We relaxed on the porch that morning and caught up on phone calls and emails.

We walked downtown and stopped in at Impressions of Saratoga for a Christmas Tree Ornament....

Recommended highly by Kirk's assistant, Cheryl, we spent the afternoon in a neighboring town called, Ballston Spa.  To our delight, we had tea time at The Whistling Kettle Tea Lounge & Cafe.

For Denis' 3-Tier Afternoon Tea
Garden Panini - Pesto Sauce, Roasted Red Peppers, Artichoke Hearts, Baby Spinach & Mozzarella on Grilled Focaccia Loaf
Kettle's House Salad - Mixed Greens with Tomatoes, Carrots & Cucumbers with
Honey Mustard Dressing on the side
Blueberry Scone with Preserves & Cream
A Pot of Balancing Ayurvedic - to calm and relax, pieces of Cinnamon, Cardamon, Licorice Root, Coriander, Fennel, Ginger Root & Rose Leaves

For my Afternoon Tea
A Savory Crepe stuffed with Asparagus, Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Goat Cheese
Creamy Tomato-Basil Soup
Cranberry Scone with Preserves & Cream
A Pot of Gojiberry Blueberry Pomegranate Green Tea - added to the fruit was a "spritz" of lemongrass underlined with a "splash" of blue cornflowers

The Scone.
One of Life's Wonderful Little Pleasures!
