On The Road With Denis & Starr/Day 28 - Belfast, ME

Wednesday, October 28

Belfast, ME

While Denis had his P&S Staff meeting this morning, I explored the neighborhood.

For the vintage theatres collection:

In a basement storefront, I found this adorable yarn shop.  I thought I had walked right into a page from Debbie Macomber's The Shop on Blossom Street.  Local ladies were gathered in comfy chairs drinking hot cider, catching up on the who's, what's, where's and when's of Belfast all the while knitting and purling like there was no tomorrow!!

I purchased some 9" Bamboo Needles and 2 Skeins of Nashua Sitar Yarn in a color called
Deep Blue Seas to knit a scarf to remember this awe-inspiring place called Maine.

Along with my supplies, tucked in my bag were a variety of other goodies.  Instructions on how to do the moss knit rib and the farrow rib; a Needle & Hook Inventory Guide; Yarn Washing Instructions and the following quote from Melanie Falick, Knit Lit:

"Knitting may not, on the surface, seem relevant to engines that run the world, but at its essence, it is actually quite vital.  For knitting, which can express so many emotions, most often expresses love.  And when all else is lost, love is what most often stays with us."

That afternoon we visited the famous, Perry's Nut House, family owned and operated since 1927 and endearingly known as the most interesting place on the Maine Coast.  The store features 36 varieties of roasted nuts, award-winning fudge, and a wide range of silly toys and collectibles.

In step with the corny items at Perry's Nut House, we came across another sampling of Maine Humor...

Hey Philippe, here's the next candidate for your
Neighborhood Stabilization Program!!
