On The Road With Denis & Starr/Day 19 - Connecticut

Monday, October 19

Crossing Connecticut

Before Gloria left for work, there was time to have one last soy latte together.  I hated having to say goodbye, but we always know that we'll meet again.  The next time for us would be in just a few weeks when she would travel to Atlanta, once again this year, this time for Amanda's baby shower.

Leaving Long Island via our favorite road, 25A, we then crossed the Throgs Neck Bridge and headed toward Connecticut.  Along the way we drove through quaint towns and I continued to add to my photo collection of tea rooms and little theatres.

While stopped at a traffic light in Westport, CT, I happened to look over and read the street sign.

That was the street where Martha Stewart had once lived.  She caused such chaos on this pristine residential street when she would film her television show there, that she eventually had to move.  We drove down the street for a look-see and our guess was that this was her house.

Further down the road, we caught our first glimpse of the famous New England Fall Foliage.

It was time for a break and to stretch our legs.

Beautiful views of the Mystic Seaport...

Denis needed a collection too.  We decided on Tugboats.

This gorgeous house in downtown Mystic had my name all over it!

That was a good movie!

After checking the menus in several restaurants for vegetarian options (they take seafood seriously in this neck of the woods), we chose AZU on West Main Street.

They served up these delicious creations called Grilled Pies on sheets of stainless steel.
I had The Fig.
The thin crispy crust was topped with Fig Puree Bleu Cheese and Arugula.
Denis had The Green Apple.
His was topped with Green Apple, Cheddar, Caraway Seeds and a Bourbon Glaze.

Having spent a pleasant afternoon in this picturesque seaport, we hit the road and did not stop until we arrived in Newport, RI.  Along the way we spotted a car sporting this bumper sticker!

  1. WOW! What a dream vacation! Thanks for inviting me along! The pictures are awesome and the commentary is so vivid that it makes me feel like I am having tea along with you.

I think I've finally figured out how to post a comment - barely before you arrive back home!
