On The Road With Denis & Starr/Day 26 - Bar Harbor, ME

Monday, October 26

Belfast & Bar Harbor, Maine

Our home base while in Maine was in Belfast.  This small seaport town is located at the mouth of the Passagassawakeag River on Penobscot Bay.

The cute historic district boasts antique architecture.

We set up household at the Belfast Bay Inn located on Main Street in a mid-1800's building.

Our beautiful suite...

Our gracious hosts, Eddie and Judy, spoiled us with their attention to every detail.

Every morning they hand delivered a gourmet breakfast right to our table.

This morning, an epicurean delight.
Spinach and Feta Quiche with a light & flaky crust.
Fresh Fruit & Juice.
French Vanilla Yogurt & Toasted Granola.
Homemade Pumpkin Bread.

After breakfast, we packed up the car for a day trip and headed to Bar Harbor marveling all the way at the incredible natural beauty of Maine.

Was this Maine, or was this Mars?

On the way we added a couple of vintage theatres to our collection...

These cute bungalow colonies reminded Denis of road trips his family took back and forth to Miami Beach from Canada in the 50's.

BAH HA BAH

WE MADE IT!!

We had arrived at the northernmost destination of our road trip.  Beautiful Bar Harbor, once considered to be just a small ship building community, is now a favorite destination of travelers from around the world.  And it was plain to see why.  From the moment we parked in the municipal lot closest to the harbor and got out of the car, every which way we turned looked like a picture postcard.

After exploring the harbor area, we walked over to the High Street to check out the little shoppes and cafes.

I found my Christmas Ornament in this store.

Hand painted to remind us of our day in Bar Harbor.

In this lovely shop we found our anniversary present to each other, a cocktail shaker and accessories so that we could make our very own Martinis.

We stopped by this cute little cafe for a coffee.

The Opera House Internet Cafe

The shop was chock a block full of antique pieces including this funky old piano.

The marquee on this vintage theatre was particularly beautiful.

The sun was dazzling as we sat for a few to people watch.

Walking back to the car we came across this interesting vignette.  Denis had found his inspiration for his next painting.

Hand me that cruise ship.

Cruising back to Belfast, we came across this epoch museum/shop...and just had to visit...

Zillions of Salt & Pepper Shakers

And tea time paraphernalia galore!

Had to have this adorable diffuser for my collection!

What a divine day it had been.   It's no wonder that Bar Harbor is cherished by travelers.
