Wilmington, North Carolina on the Cape Fear Coast
We settled in to the "Monet" room at the Front Street Inn, a boutique hotel in the heart of Wilmington's historic district. frontstreetinn.com This lovely room with arched windows and maple floors was full of light. The decor was very colorful and the bathroom had a large, claw foot tub.
Early in the morning we received a call from our security company informing us that the alarm had gone off at our house in Atlanta. Our wonderful neighbor, Joanne, met with the police officer and then walked through the house to assure that everything was fine. Thank you, Joanne!! Thanks also to DJ, Hank, Stefani and Connie for keeping a look out while we are away.
After all of the excitement, we had a delicious breakfast in the Sol y Sombra Bar at the inn which included Veggie Quiche, fresh seasonal fruits and pumpkin bread.
After breakfast, Denis was scheduled to take care of some business.
I went down to the lower level and walked on the treadmill and read the first few chapters of the book Tap Roots which traces the evolution of tap dance in America.
Later in the day we walked the 1/2 block over to the Chandler's Wharf and the Cape Fear Riverwalk. It was a drizzly day and it would have made the perfect setting for Jacques Brel's In The Port Of Amsterdam.
This bridge to Eagles Island caught Denis' fancy.
We enjoyed a delicious, late lunch at Fat Tony's Italian Pub on Front Street. Eggplant Parmigiana for Denis, Spinach Fettuccini with Marinara for me and a nice bottle of Pinot Noir to share.
There is a very heartwarming story about friendship that explains how Fat Tony's came to be. You can find it on their website at fatpub.com (scroll down and click on The Story).
We continued our stroll down Front Street and came upon the production crew for the television show, One Tree Hill. It was interesting to learn that Wilmington is known as one of America's largest living film sets and pegged, Hollywood East!

We stopped into a funky, aromatherapy shop and Denis gave a taste of things to come on their Buddha Board:
And here it is!!!!
What a delightful day we spent in this charming waterfront town. I found the following in a little book on the shelf at the Front Street Inn which was an account of little journeys to various quaint inns.
"I'll view the manners of the town,
Peruse traders,
Gaze upon the buildings,
And then return,
And sleep within mine inn."

Goodnight, Monet....
