Ehrhardt, SC
The breakfast fare at Ehrhardt Hall was delicious. There were light and fluffy blueberry pancakes with warm maple syrup, a colorful fresh fruit salad with strawberries, kiwi, melon and more blueberries, and to top it off, hot out of the oven pumpkin and banana bread. Oh, yum!!
With our tummies full and our eyes looking east, we bid farewell to Shirley and Frank and we hit the road.....
Most of what we saw on this leg of the trip was:
Cotton Fields in the Sun
Charleston, SC
After crossing a very nice, large bridge we entered the Charleston city limits. We were excited to finally arrive and thought that a stop at the Welcome Center would help us to clarify which sites we would and would not visit on this now abbreviated stay in Charleston. As it turned out, this want to be Welcome Center was a vacation timeshare office. After a nice chat with the smooth talking Ms. Fly and handing over $20 that we were guaranteed to get back if we showed up at the presentation at 3:45 pm, we arrived in Charleston proper (having then passed the real Welcome Center!)
We were booked at the DoubleTree right smack dab in the middle of the Historic District. I have to say that Hilton Hotels are terrific. Flashback to the tire incident - when I called to tell them of the problem, they told us not to worry even though we had passed the cancellation time. They only charged us for the one night we stayed in Charleston. The neighborhood surrounding this hotel was crowded with vacationers and a very lively spot to be, indeed! We checked in and rested up a bit. 3:45 came and went....
Starving, we headed to the waterfront to have dinner at Fleet Landing. This restaurant was recommended to us by the infamous Ms. Fly and to her by her vegetarian uncle. And the meal we enjoyed was scrumptious. Denis and I have agreed that our wine of choice on this trip will be Pinot Noir and we shared a very nice, reasonably priced bottle. And take a look at the menu we got to choose from:
We chose the Grilled Vegetable Plate and the Grilled Mushroom Napoleon. The portions were huge!!

Thank goodness our room had a fridge, because we packed up half of it to go....
Adding to our dining pleasure were the most delightful breezes and nautical scenes.
Sail Away
Sail Away
We will cross the mighty ocean
Into Charleston Bay
Oh, why not? What's a waterfront vacation without a slice of key lime pie?

After a brisk, after dinner walk from the restaurant and through the lively historic district, we returned to our comfortable suite and caught up on emails, etc. Before we knew it, SNL was on and we laughed out loud at the "Pawsilynn Fowntens"sketch, the Norwegians talking with American accents and who ever knew how cool Lady GaGa was?
